Design Field Trip: Cleveland

Cleveland, Ohio is a city that sparks creativity from corner to corner, thanks to its vibrant arts scene, picturesque landscapes, and the undeniable charm that inspire you as you explore its streets. I recently had the pleasure of visiting Cleveland and left creatively recharged by the experience.

Exploring the Cleveland Museum of Art

One of my first stops in this creatively inspiring city was the Cleveland Museum of Art. Nestled in the University Circle neighborhood, this world-class institution houses an impressive collection of art spanning thousands of years and across various cultures. I was particularly drawn to the modern art wing, a massive multi-room wing of large-scale contemporary pieces that left me in awe.

As I meandered through the modern art exhibits, I was struck by the innovative expressions of artists who had pushed the boundaries to share their inspiration through unique forms and mediums. The vibrant colors, interesting shapes, and avant-garde installations had me reimagining those ideas in to concepts for interior spaces The museum's dedication to providing an open space for artistic exploration was a great first stop that set the tone for my journey through the city.

A Drive Along the Lakeshore

Cleveland's location along the shores of Lake Erie makes it an ideal place for creative contemplation. Driving down the tree-lined streets parallel to the lake, the scenes of stately Craftsman-style homes were nothing short of breathtaking as they greatly contrasted the typical style of architecture seen around Atlanta. I was thankful to have visited when colors of fall were at their peak, with the trees adorning a palette of reds, yellows, and oranges making it a truly picturesque drive

Architectural Gems and Quaint Charm

Cleveland is a city that combines history with modernity seamlessly. Exploring the city's neighborhoods, I was captivated by its architectural diversity. The historic districts showcased stunning Craftsman-style homes with intricate details, while downtown displayed sleek and contemporary skyscrapers and arcades with great dining options to select from. The city's passion for preserving its architectural heritage while embracing the new was evident at many stops on the trip.

Cleveland's quaintness also left a lasting impression. Quirky little shops, charming cafes, and friendly locals all contributed to the city's warm and welcoming atmosphere. It was easy to strike up conversations with local residents who were more than willing to share stories and insights on the city they love.

The Beauty of Fall in Cleveland

Visiting Cleveland during the fall season was a great decision. The city seemed to come alive with the vibrant hues of autumn, and the crisp weather was invigorating. Walking through parks and streets carpeted with fallen leaves, I couldn't help but feel inspired by the beauty of the season.

My trip to Cleveland, Ohio, was nothing short of creatively inspiring. The Cleveland Museum of Art's modern art wing, the scenic drive along Lake Erie, the city's diverse architecture, and the charming atmosphere all played a role in igniting my creative spark while the fall season added a layer of beauty and tranquility to the experience. If you're seeking a destination that combines artistic inspiration with natural beauty, Cleveland should undoubtedly be on your list.
